Parasol frame care – maintaining wood, aluminium and metal frames

Not only the canopy requires regular care – the parasol frame also needs proper maintenance to ensure long-lasting stability, smooth operation and appearance. Cleaning and care requirements vary depending on the material.

This guide provides essential advice on caring for wooden, aluminium and metal parasol frames, as well as moving mechanical components.

Caring for wooden frames

Wooden frames are valued for their high-quality appearance and natural look. To keep them in good condition, regular maintenance is essential.

  • apply suitable wood care oil once or twice per year
  • only treat clean and completely dry wood
  • avoid prolonged exposure to moisture, especially at joints
  • check screws and fittings regularly
  • store the parasol in a dry, protected place during winter

Tip: Minor scratches can often be improved using fine sanding pads and a thin layer of oil.

Caring for aluminium frames

Aluminium frames are low-maintenance, corrosion-resistant and durable. However, regular cleaning helps preserve their appearance.

  • clean with water and a mild detergent
  • avoid abrasive cleaners or rough sponges
  • lightly lubricate moving parts when necessary
  • remove stubborn dirt with a soft cloth

Note: Aggressive cleaning agents may dull the surface – always use mild products.

Caring for steel and powder-coated frames

Steel frames offer excellent stability but require protection against corrosion. Powder-coated surfaces provide additional protection but still benefit from regular care.

  • clean regularly using water and mild detergent
  • repair scratches promptly to prevent rust
  • avoid using pressure washers
  • store in a dry location during extended periods of non-use

Tip: Small damaged areas can be sealed using suitable touch-up paint or protective coatings.

Caring for mechanisms and moving parts

Regardless of frame material, all mechanical components should be checked regularly:

  • lightly lubricate crank systems
  • check joints and folding mechanisms for smooth operation
  • tighten screws if necessary
  • maintain bearing points as required
