Weather & seasonal care – protecting your parasol

Parasols are exposed to changing weather conditions on a daily basis. To keep the fabric, frame and mechanisms in good working condition, proper handling during wind, rain and seasonal changes is essential.

This guide explains how to protect your parasol under different weather conditions and which care steps are recommended throughout the year.

Protecting a parasol from wind

Wind is one of the main stress factors for parasols. Even moderate gusts can place significant strain on the frame and mechanisms.

  • always close the parasol in strong wind
  • never leave the parasol unsecured
  • use sufficiently heavy bases or ground anchors
  • pay special attention to stability with cantilever parasols

Tip: Even during short absences, the parasol should be closed if weather conditions are uncertain.

Handling rain and moisture

Modern parasol fabrics are water-repellent but not completely waterproof. Moisture is not a problem as long as the parasol is allowed to dry properly afterwards.

  • never store a wet parasol in a closed position
  • allow fabric, seams and hems to dry completely
  • only use a protective cover once the parasol is fully dry

Winter storage – overview

During the winter months, parasols should be protected from cold, moisture and dirt. Proper preparation helps extend the lifespan of both fabric and frame.

  • clean the parasol before storage
  • allow it to dry completely
  • use a breathable protective cover
  • store in a dry, frost-free location
