For a hotel terrace on the North Sea, we were commissioned to develop a durable shading solution for a long table with surrounding benches. The south-facing terrace is exposed to strong coastal winds, so the parasol system needed to provide reliable shade while keeping the seating area open and unobstructed.
The Initial Situation
The terrace is an important outdoor area for hotel guests. A long table with surrounding benches forms the central seating area and needed to be shaded as evenly as possible.
At the same time, the open view across the surrounding landscape was to be preserved. A conventional centre-pole parasol would have interfered with the seating arrangement and restricted the usable space around the table.
Planning the Shading Solution
Because of the exposed location on the North Sea, the solution had to take more than just the size of the shaded area into account. The position of the mast, the arrangement of the parasol canopies and the permanent anchoring all played an important role in the planning.
The aim was to create a large shaded area without placing a parasol pole in the middle of the table or seating zone.
Implementation with a Prostor Multipole DUO
We chose a Prostor Multipole parasol system in DUO configuration. Two parasol canopies are mounted on a shared side-positioned support structure and shade the long table from above without a central mast interfering with the seating area.
The side-positioned mast keeps the table and surrounding benches fully usable and helps preserve the open character of the terrace.
The parasol system was permanently anchored using a ground socket. This creates a clean solution without a large mobile base taking up space on the terrace.
The Result
The completed installation provides generous shade for the long seating area while keeping the terrace open and easy to use.
The project demonstrates how a carefully planned hospitality parasol solution can combine a large shaded area, unobstructed seating and permanent anchoring – particularly in exposed locations such as a hotel terrace on the North Sea.
A successful shading solution is created when the parasol system is planned around the actual use of the terrace rather than simply around the available space.
